MAS – The Sheepshead Bay location host Halaqas!
MAS is very popular in the Muslim community and very well-known and recognized for hosting various events for both boys and girls. This event I attended was at the Sheepshead Bay location.
This was my second time attending a Halaqa hosted by the two young girls, Hailie and Sofia. I really appreciate these gatherings because they’re educational and inspire you to strengthen your connection with Allah, whether it’s through more prayer, reading the Quran, or making more dhikr.
Get Involved with the Sheepshead Bay Community
This is a newer community, and they’ve been working hard to host various events to encourage more people in Sheepshead Bay to get involved. I wanted to personally reach out and encourage you to attend one of their events – you might find it really beneficial. Even if you’re not a local, come support another borough!
Come with friends or even by yourself—you’re likely to connect with someone new. Another reason I love Halaqas is their open discussion format. Everyone can participate and share their beliefs, struggles, and knowledge about the Islamic faith.
A “Paint and Sip” Halaqa on Haya
This Halaqa had a fun “paint and sip” theme! The girls and I enjoyed refreshing Shirley Temples (mocktails), a perfect drink for the hot weather, and we were at a nearby park. Our discussion focused on Haya and what it means to us, as we painted our interpretations. As someone who truly loves art, I really enjoyed this concept. For those unfamiliar, Haya (حياء) in Arabic generally translates to modesty, shyness, bashfulness, or shame.
They’re currently looking for volunteers, so if you’re interested in giving back to the community, this would be a great way to start. Who knows, you might even find your naseeb along the way!
