Stand on Business: For You and For Her
While Valentine’s Day is traditionally reserved for date nights and bouquets, it can often leave those flying solo feeling a bit overlooked. This year, Uproar changed the narrative. On a day dedicated to love, Uproar hosted an event that reminded us of the most important way to show up: for ourselves, our community, and our sisters.
The energy was a testament to the vision of Uproar’s founder, Sanat, a powerhouse from Palestine who truly understands the needs of the modern Muslim women. Whether you wear the hijab or not, Sanat has cultivated a judgment-free zone where women can be their authentic selves, regardless of where they are on their religious journey.
Growing up in the West, navigating life as a woman is a challenge in itself. Seeing spaces specifically filled with successful, supportive Muslim women isn’t just refreshing, it’s a whole new level of inspiration.
We heard from several incredible speakers, including Nabila, who shared her journey of pivoting from architecture to law and now she will inshallah start her own firm. Her story was a masterclass in:
-
Integrity: Never compromising your values or beliefs for a paycheck.
-
Tawakkul: Having a deep, unshakeable trust in Allah’s plan.
The concept of Tawakkul can be one of our most difficult tests, especially when things around us feel uncertain. It mirrors the sentiment that there is Khair (goodness) in everything; while a situation might not make sense in the moment, time eventually reveals how those challenges were necessary to lead us to where we are today.
To close the evening, Sanat shared a deeply personal reflection on the passing of her father. Her message was a poignant reminder that time is fleeting.
Many of us share a similar upbringing where parents may not have been outwardly affectionate, leading us to build “tough” exteriors. Sanat challenged us to break those cycles. She reminded us to:
-
Lower our guards.
-
Express our love to our parents and loved ones while they are still here.
-
Appreciate the present moment before it becomes a memory.
Speak Up: As the night concluded, every attendee was gifted a rose and a photo in front of the “Speak Up” backdrop. It served as a final, beautiful reminder: We all have a story worth sharing. You never know who you might inspire or whose life you might change just by being yourself.
