Sudanese Resistance Front (SuRF)
SuRF collaborated with Moving Forward Sudan to host the ‘Art as Archive, Art as Action’ event, as they both share similar missions.
This event was an art showcase exploring how Sudanese artists use visual storytelling to document the revolution, preserve collective memory, and continue the resistance.
When I arrived, a SuRF organizer warmly greeted me. They were excited to learn I was there to write about the event for our site. My goal with this project is to highlight the many interesting happenings in the city and the cool people you can meet along the way. I also aim to educate people about global events, specifically what’s happening in Sudan. If you’ve read my previous post about Awlad Aneel, you’ll have some context on Sudan’s history and its ongoing struggles.
A Taste of Sudan
Now, let’s talk about the food! I got to try some Sudanese appetizers that reminded me of falafel, though I was told the ingredients were a bit different. They also served meatballs and a really refreshing salad—perfect for a summer day. I don’t know the names of these specific dishes, but it was great to see food offered at the event. While I can’t say if this will always be the case in the future, serving traditional dishes is a brilliant way to help people connect with the culture.
I also wanted to share something that they are trying to do which is trying to collect donation for the “We Must Plant Campaign” I went ahead and shared a couple of slides that can go more in depth about this campaign and how you can help support them.

Something to note about SuRF is that they frequently collaborate with Awlad Aneel on events that promote Sudanese culture through art, music, and food. So expect to see future events hosted by these two orginazations as well!
